Choosing a Host

A stand alone website with your own domain requires web hosting. Web hosts provide a home for your site or blog. They are the “server” or computers that link visitors to the information on your site.

When you create a webpage or blog, it lives on the host server. The software you use to build your webpage is built on your host server and information such as text and photos are uploaded to the server. Content management programs (CMS) such as WordPress make adding information to your website or blog as easy as using a word processing program.

Domain Names
You will also need to register your domain name, the URL or web address that people will use to find your site. The URL for this site is www.quickeasyblog.com. Most web hosts (at least the ones I use) offer one free domain registration with their hosting packages. Additional domain registrations avg. $10/year.

Along with your domain name, you should receive either an unlimited number of email addresses (or at least more than the small business will ever need). These are email addresses that start with a chosen name or word and end with the registered domain name. For example, my email address for the domain www.quickeasyblog.com is Jim@quickeasyblog.com.

Addon Domains and Websites
A good hosting package will allow you to add an unlimited number of domain names and web sites. I originally purchased the hosting package that hosts Quick and Easy Blog four or five years ago and I now use it to host five different web sites.

Shared vs. Dedicated Hosting
You can purchase either a shared or dedicated hosting account. For most individuals and small businesses, a shared account will work just fine. They are much more affordable and unless you are getting massive traffic (thousands/hour) will serve your needs. Shared hosting costs an average of $6-$10/month.

If you are just starting out, go with a shared hosting package. When internet fame pushes the limits of shared hosting, a good provider will help you make the transfer to a dedicated account.

My Recommendation
I am currently using FatCow to build websites. Along with providing excellent service and support, they offer unlimited storage, unlimited bandwidth, a free domain and unlimited add on domains. They are also optimized for WordPress and have proven reliable. They also offer the best hosting prices I’ve seen at this time. Currently, they offer a discounted rate of $66/year which can be locked in for three years. After the initial subscription period is over, the price goes to $88/year which is still better than I’ve seen elsewhere.

The link below is my affiliate link to FatCow.com. In order to receive my discounted pricing offered on The Details page, you will need to register for hosting through one of the links anywhere on this site.

If you decide that you don’t want to purchase a blog installation and setup, if you purchase hosting through one of my affiliate links, I’ll send you my instructional videos as a way of saying thank you. Click on the images below to purchase web hosting.
